Willie “Jean” Gentry Thomas was born on July 10, 1938, to Oscar and Mary Genty in Branchville, TX.
Jean, as we all knew her was a leader, a teacher and great supporter to everyone she touched.
Jean came to know the lord at an early age while a member of Providence Baptist Church in Branchville, TX. After marrying the love of her life, David Thomas on July 28, 1973, she moved her membership to St. James UMC. Jean was a strong and faithful servant! Over the years, Jean was very active in the church. Some of her accomplishments included, Co-Chair of the Leadership Team, Lay Servant, Church Decorator for all major events, Head of Food Ministry, and Planning and Event Ministry Team. Jean was an active member of the Ministry Team, History and Records, the Grant Committee, and Treasurer for United Methodist Women, now United Women in Faith, for over 15 years. She also played a huge part in organizing the Inspirational Choir, which has been together for over 25 years.
Jean continued to learn and grow throughout her life. Prior to her retirement in August 1995, she was a Certified Home Economist for Family and Consumer Services.

BS Degree – Home Economics – TX Southern University, Houston
Post Graduate work – Family Finance, Clothing/Nutrition and Wellness – Oklahoma University, Norman, OK Early Child Education – University of Houston Elementary Education – TAMU MS of Elementary Education – Prairie View A&M Jean’s background and education allowed her to teach and serve in several communities including: Home Economics – West ISD, Cameron ISD and Rosebud ISD TAEX – County Extension Agent – FCS – Milam County and Falls County From 1988 – 1991, Jean was a member of FCL Board and Training Team and in 1994 she held the office of TAEHE State Secretary.
Jean departed this life on September 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Mary Gentry and her siblings, W.D., Carl Lee, Bernice, Ruth, Oscar, Calvin, Louis and David E Thomas (son in love- Janice).
She leaves to cherish her memories, the love of her life, David Thomas, Janice Thomas, Alesia (Michael) Starr, two grandchildren, Victor Thomas (Rut) and Bijan Starr, Tristan Gaines (Godson) and a host of relatives and friends.
