Vernell Lewis

Mrs. Vernell Laverne Manners Lewis was born on April 8, 1927, to Roy and Florine in Cox-Milam County, Texas.  She attended and graduated from Milano High School in Milano, Texas.

She later met and married Mr. Golden Lewis. From that union, two children were born Mae Jewel Lewis Irvin and Cleveland Le’Roy Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis was a faithful Corinth Missionary Baptist Church member for over 60 years.  During her tenure she served in the following capacities: a member and secretary of the Usher Board; Sunday school secretary, Mission I secretary, Mother of the Hour of Power, and Building Fund Governor.

She was also active in community activities and frequently attended the events held at the Friendship House for Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Lewis departed this life on March 19, 2025.  She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, one daughter, one son, and two great-great sons.

She leaves to Cherish her memories two granddaughters Yolando Latrice Nealy Peoples (Charles) of Temple, TX, Erica Nicole Irvin Harris (Robert) of Houston, TX; one grandson Kedrick Le’Roy Nealy of Temple, TX; four great-grandsons Jonathan Kilgore, Kris Haire, Kedrick L. Adams, Jamerion Duncan; one great-granddaughter Pasha Lynn Nealy; one sister-in-law Daisy Manners of Cameron, TX.

All of Mr. & Mrs. John Neal’s children were special to her, Evelyn Neal Cockrell, Loretta Neal

Rose, John Neal, Jr, Kenneth Neal, Thomas Neal, and Wayne Neal, along with a host of, nephews,

Nieces, other relatives, and friends.
