Ora Mae Demerson

Mrs. Ora Mae Dotson Demerson was born on September 17, 1925 in Plum, Texas to Don Dotson, Sr. and Ellen Wright Dotson. She was the ninth of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, four brothers, six sisters and beloved grandson, Kevin Beans.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active member of Eighth Street Baptist Church in Temple for many years and served faithfully as an Usher, Director of the Junior Usher Board and as a teacher in Sunday School, Women’s Missions, Vacation Bible School and Training Union. She later joined Grant Chapel Baptist Church in Troy and was a member of the choir. After moving to San Antonio to be a caregiver for her sister, she united with St. Joseph A.M.E. Church. She joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mason/New/Imogene White Sunday School class.

She was employed by Dr. and Mrs. Charles Gillespie as a housekeeper and nanny. She dearly loved the five Gillespie children. She remained in contact with them throughout the years and thought of them as her own. She also worked in the Dietary Department at Scott and White Hospital, prior to retirement.

Ora Mae’s warm, loving spirit attracted people of all ages. Many loved and adored her and considered her as Mother. She welcomed and embraced them all.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, Lana Elmore (Robert) of Smyrna, Georgia and Eleanor Lorraine Beans of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Torrance Belser of McComb, Mississippi; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Mason Belser of New Orleans, Louisiana; nephews, Marvin Dotson, Marvin Shirley, Kevin McIntyre and Devin Keith of San Antonio, Texas and Maurice Shirley of Columbia, South Carolina; and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Our family owes a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to repay to Lorraine for being a dedicated, devoted, patient and loving caregiver.
