Winds from Heaven ruled September 1, 2022 strong and gusty, yet smooth and gentle. A sweet chariot riding there winds with instructions from Almighty God to swing low so gentle and carry Odessa Home.
She was born in Milam County, Texas to Shed and Fannie Nelson. She confessed her hope in Christ early in life, and served faithfully at Bethel AME Church in Cameron.
Her education began O.J. Thomas High School. Upon graduation from high school she attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. She later attended Tyler Barber College in Tyler, Texas.
She met and was united in matrimony to Dussie S. Poole who preceded her in death. A wonderful daughter and son were born.
She later moved to Temple, Texas where she met and married Lawrence Holmes.
She united with Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastorage of Dr. C. Edward Maze, She served as mission chorus president and Mary’s Circle president.
Odessa was self employed during her working life, She owned and operated Odessa’s Barber Shop in Cameron, Texas, After moving to Temple she opened and operated Odessa’s Barber & Beauty where several were employed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Shed & Fannie Nelson; husbands Dussie Poole, Lawrence Holmes; one sister: Althia Nelson, two brothers Marvin Nelson, Andrew (Ad) Nelson.
She leaves to cherish her memories; one daughter: Beverly Poole of Houston, Texas; one son: Dennis (Debra) Poole of Waco, Texas; one grandson: Eric Poole of Temple, Texas; one sister: Clara Aycox of Oakland, Ca. and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
