Markesha Laronda Charles

Precious depicts the priceless value that something or someone represents to those blessed to attain its possession or to meet their acquaintance. It also reflects the incalculable cost of the absence of one whose life added value to the lives of others.

Precious is the life of Markesha LaRonda Charles, who was born to the parental stewardship of Howard and Pamela Charles on November 10, 1995, in Fort Hood, Texas.

From the moment of her birth, Markesha's life became a living testimony of God's grace, strength, purpose, and faithfulness. In the words of Psalm 139:14, she was truly "fearfully and wonderfully made." The circumstances surrounding her birth provided an early glimpse into the strength and perseverance that would characterize her life. Weighing only 2 pounds, 11 ounces at birth, she was immediately transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she remained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for two months. Those early days of uncertainty became the first testimony of the determination, resilience, and courage that would define her earthly journey.

At the tender age of ten, Markesha accepted Jesus as her Savior, securing the eternal hope that would guide the course of her life. Her love for Jesus led her to yield her life to His Lordship, serving Him by serving the needs of others. While she loved everyone, her passion was especially evident in her compassion for the youth. Her commitment to serving the Youth earned their affection and admiration, as well as the highest respect from her team members and mentors.

Markesha completed her formal education through several schools within the Killeen Independent School District. She attended Pershing Park Elementary School for Kindergarten and First Grade, Perfect Praise Academy for Second Grade, and Venable Village Elementary School for Third and Fifth Grade. She continued her education at Fairway Middle School and Charles Patterson Middle School before graduating from Ellison High School as a member of the Class of 2014. Her passion for expanding, growing, and developing her gifts also led her to pursue photography studies at Central Texas College, where she earned a certification in the field.

All those blessed to know Markesha will remember a remarkable young woman whose life reflected a rare combination of passion, grace, love, strength, and perseverance. Her passion was more than enthusiasm; it was a God-given conviction that inspired her to invest deeply in others. Her grace was revealed through her generosity, compassion, and sincere concern for those around her. Her love for people flowed from her love for God. Her strength was evident in her unwavering commitment to serve others, and her perseverance reflected a faith that remained steadfast throughout every season of life.

Helping others was not merely something Markesha did; it was part of who she was. Whether offering comfort, encouragement, assistance, or simply a listening ear, she possessed a unique ability to make people feel valued and loved. She never met a stranger. Her warm spirit, infectious smile, and caring heart enabled her to connect naturally with people from every walk of life. She loved youth and elders alike and found genuine joy in serving others.

Beyond ministry and service, Markesha enjoyed roller skating, photography, shopping, traveling, exercising, and spending precious time with family and friends. Her presence brought joy wherever she went, and her laughter, honesty, kindness, and authenticity enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Though none of us fully understand the purposes of God, Markesha lived with the quiet confidence that His will was trustworthy and His plans were certain. Through every chapter of her journey, she remained committed to living a life that honored the Lord and blessed those entrusted to her path.

Those preceding Markesha’s transition from the shores of this earthly realm include: her grandfathers, Marvin Ray Hartsfield and Howard R. Charles, Sr.; step-grandfather, Richard Smith; uncles, Marvin Ray Hartsfield, Jr. and Robert Dixon; and god-sister, Katie Young.

Among so many who remain that will cherish her memory are her loving parents, Howard and Pamela Charles; her grandmothers, Maggie Smith and Pinkie Hartsfield; her godmother, Jeneal Tucker; her god-sister, Peyton Skillern; her aunts, Rita Potts, Phyllis Barksdale, Norma Hartsfield, Valerie Hartsfield, Patricia Hartsfield, and Tamika Dixon; her uncles, Edward Hartsfield, Mark Hutcherson, Carter Wade, and Tedrose Charles; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, church family, friends, neighbors, and countless others whose lives were enriched by her presence.

Until the glorious reunion at the return of our Lord, may our lives honor Him as we celebrate the precious life of Markesha, the testimony of her faith, and the indelible impact of her love. Though her earthly journey has concluded, her influence remains woven into the hearts of all who know her, inspiring us to live with the same passion, grace, strength, perseverance, and devotion to Christ that so powerfully marked her life.
