George Ernest English’s charismatic, commanding life’s journey began on August 19, 1931, in Marlin, Texas and ended February 2, 2025, in Temple, Texas.
He was the second and third child (twin) born to George Ellis and Lillie Mae Steward English.
He completed his pre-college education in Marlin ISD where he was an avid debater and talented singer.
George established his relationship with God at an early age…he sang in the Marlin Baptist Choir, the Paul Quinn College Choir, and served on the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church Trustee Board as pro-tempore before continuing his service at Wayman Chapel AME Church.
George met Leontene Roberson during his brief stay at Paul Quinn College. The long-distance romance continued; they were married several years later and were BLESSED with the arrival of Byron Dwight English.
George completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree work at Prairie View A & M University and continued his educational career by attending the University of Houston and Temple Junior College.
He served his country by serving in the Navy and serving as an Army Officer.
George pursued his career by serving as: science teacher, football coach, industrial arts teacher, visiting teacher and principal.
As a member of numerous boards and local committees, he was given an opportunity to speak his mind in a forceful and commanding manner which he truly enjoyed. He was most proud to have served as the president of the Temple Branch N.A.A.C.P. for twenty years.
Before retiring to run his ranch, George served as District 2 city councilman/mayor pro-tempores for many years. He had an ardent desire to serve so he could have an impact on the lives of others and especially young people in a positive manner. He epitomized “servant leader” and George served well. His mantra was….do not follow, craft your own trail and know that you may not be able to change the path of the ship, but you can tilt the sails.
On February 2, 2025 at 1:32 P.M., George joined his celestial family: namely: George and Lillie Mae English (parents), Ray Steward English (brother), Jewellene Scales (twin sister) and Byron Dwight English (son)…….Leaving his earthly family who will miss him very, very much: Leontene English (spouse) Temple, TX., Katrina English (Granddaughter) Temple, TX., Erica English Barney (Carlton)(Granddaughter) Houston, Tx., Valerie Haywood (Elmo) daughter-in-law Houston, Tx. , Fay Hubbard (sister) Houston, Tx., Robbie Weatherspoon (Marvin) (sister) Houston, Tx., and many very special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
George Ernest English truly loved his family; he leaves a host of family members and friends who shared his passion for service. He lived well, is at peace and singing with the angels.
