Fred “A.J.” Albert James Humphries was born on May 21, 1935, in Rockdale, Texas to Hilliard Humphries and Lillian Hardeman Humphries. He graduated from Aycock High School in Rockdale, Texas.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale, Texas.
Upon moving to Temple, Texas, he united with Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and was dedicated and faithful until death. Through the years, Fred actively served in the following capacities: Deacon, President of the Senior Ushers Ministry, Men of Faith Devotion Leader, Building Fund Governor, member of the Health and Wellness Ministry where he was overseer of the First Aid Room, member of Home Bound Ministry, Baptist Training Union Vice president, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Chairperson for the Temple Area Ushers, Nurses and Greeters Ministry in the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas. Bro. Humphries was the “Corinth 2015 Man of the Year”. He was also a devoted member of the Usher Ministry in the Lincoln District Missionary Baptist Association for many years.
Fred was a Nurse Technician, held the position of Traction Technician at Scott & White Hospital, and retired after 42 years of service.
He departed this life on July 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilliard and Lillian Humphries, and one sister, Eliza Humphries.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Stella McBride Guyton, Daniel and Janet Hardeman, Cynthia McBride, Teresa Sneed, Erma Felix, Sandra Hollis, Rodney and Vanessa Wead, and host of other relatives and friends.
