Clyde Douglas McGlory Jr., 65, of Temple, passed away peacefully at Olin E Teague Veterans’ Medical Center on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, surrounded by his best friend, love of his life, and wife, Mary (Jackson).
Clyde was born October 13, 1955, in Parsons, Kansas, to Mary Etta Conger and Clyde Douglas McGlory Sr. He was the youngest of seven children. Clyde confessed Christ at an early age and attended Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church as a child in Parsons. After moving to Temple, TX, he joined Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he was a member until his sunset.
Clyde was educated in the Parsons Independent School District. In 1983, Clyde enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Communications System Maintenance Specialist and a Vehicle Operator Dispatcher. During his years of service, he served in Operation Desert Shield. Clyde received numerous medals and honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Medal of Good Conduct, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Overseas Short Tour, Air Force Overseas Long Tour, Air Force NCO PME Graduate, and Air Force Training Ribbon. His duty stations included Croughton AFB- Northamptonshire, England, Kwang Ju AFB- Seoul Korea, Little Rock AFB - Little Rock, AR, Tinker AFB - Oklahoma City, OK, Fort Gordon - Augusta, GA, Sheppard AFB, and Bergstrom AFB-both in Texas. In 1991, Clyde was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force after serving twelve years. He then enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and was Honorably Discharged in 1994.
After faithfully serving his country, Clyde went to work at Texas Hydraulics in Temple, TX, where friends and colleagues knew him as “the Gentle Giant” due to his calm and gentle spirit. He medically retired in 2017.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Conger and Clyde D. McGlory Sr; and three brothers: Ricky, George, and Cicero Owens Sr.
Clyde is survived by his wife Mary; one son, Clyde D. McGlory III of Parsons, KS; two daughters, Khamill McGlory and Deja Hardeman of Austin, TX; two stepdaughters, Cicily Wallace of Dallas, TX, and Marian Reed of The Woodlands, TX; one step-son, Jeffery Wilson (Chereeta) of Grand Prairie, TX; one brother, Robert Owens Sr. (Brenda) of Temple, TX; two sisters, Shirley Nelson and Dorothy Gross (Tony) of Parsons, KS; ten grandchildren, Dayton, Star, Clyde IV, Khalil, Qua, Josiah, Katelynn, Kirsten, Taylor, and Layla; as well as a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
