Chauncey Thomas

Chauncey Thomas, affectionately known as Doc, by his mother, was delivered by Minnie Rector, Midwife, on December 5th, 1959 to Christine Thomas.

Chauncey grew up to attend Booker T. Washington School before integration to Bartlett Public School. Later, Chauncey received his high school diploma through a work study program.

As a young man he was baptized at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend Ira Lewis, then pastor.

Chauncey enjoyed singing, dancing, and drawing memorable pieces of art, that his daughter, Nadine, says proudly, "Daddy can really draw." He passed this talent onto his granddaughter, Kadriana. Chauncey wasthought of as the life of the party. If the party wasn't bubbly, he would be the one to get it started. His sister, Rose, says "He liked to have fun."

For many years, before an injury he was employed by the Texas Disposal System in Belton, TX.

Whilst on a night out, Chauncey saw his bride of 43 years, Doris Nell Crathers as she was walking with her cousins. To this union they bore two daughters, Shelia, Nadine, and later begun raising Clarance M Crathers as one of their own.

During his last years, Chauncey enjoyed instilling in his grandchildren, the value of education. He once made his oldest granddaughter, Kadriana, read an entire dictionary and would occasionally have her spell the words she's learned. To spend quality time with his grandchildren, he often took them to the Bartlett Public Library to read and to checkout books. He'd also play card games such as, Uno, with them.

He even enjoyed picking pecans with his family and friends. During the fall, he would takehis grandchildren to the nearest pecan tree and he'd pick pecans with them and they'd fillup a bucket.

He is preceded in death by, His Mother Christine Thomas, Mother in-law Dorothy Crathers, Father in-law Solomon Crathers, grandsons Kyree Crathers and Cary Crathers Jr, Brother Donald Ray Thomas, Brother in-laws Clarance Crathers, and Darritt Crathers Sr., and his Sister Linda White.

He leaves to mourn his wife Doris Nell Thomas, Bartlett; His children, Shelia Ann Turner (Robert), Bartlett and Nadine Thomas (James), Temple;

His Grandchildren, Kadriana Jones, Bartlett; Niajha Crathers, Bartlett; Karyah Crathers (Tony), Temple; James Bubba McGee, Temple; Javion Crathers, Bartlett; and Zairyan Crathers, Bartlett.

His sisters, Rose Mary Thomas, Georgetown; Barbara Nell Smith (Michael), Bartlett; and Beverly Walton, Irving; His brothers, Jesse Ray Williams, Dallas; David Verse, Georgetown; and Robert Wayne Mack, Walburg.

His In-Laws, Ira Crathers (Christina), Holland; Charles Crathers, Temple; Wayne Crathers (Nina), Belton; Lonnie Crathers (Theresa), Bartlett; and Kathleen Hurst (Simon), Oklahoma City, OK, and a host of Nieces and Nephews and other family members.
